Stephen Charles Benjamin, 61, of Hunter, NY, passed away unexpectedly on 11/27/21 at the family home in Hunter.
Stephen was born in El Paso Texas to the late John and Patricia Benjamin. Stephen graduated from Hunter-Tannersville Central School. After graduation Stephen enlisted into the US Air Force, serving three years before being honorably discharged. After discharge from the Air Force Stephen followed his dream of becoming a chef, and enrolled into the Culinary Institute of America, located in Hyde Park NY. The culinary arts were Stephen’s passion and after his studies at the Culinary Institute were completed, he began working as a chef in Boston and NYC. While living in Manhattan Stephen worked as a pastry chef for Sylvia Weinstock Cakes, where he excelled as a boulanger and decorateur. After ending his tenure at Weinstock Cakes, he made the decision to move to Florida and was hired as a personal chef at an estate located on Sanibel Island, a position which he thoroughly enjoyed. Stephen was also a lover of animals, especially his little dog “Bella”, who will miss him greatly. Stephen was predeceased by his parents, John and Patricia, and is survived by his sisters Debbi and Jayne and by his brother Kelly. Stephen is also survived by four nieces and nephews, a great-niece, as well as numerous cousins. A memorial service is currently being planned for the spring of 2022 during which time Stephen’s ashes will be interred at the Maplewood Cemetery, Hunter NY.
