Margaret Locker Wright, of Tannersville, NY, passed peacefully at The Pines in Catskill NY on March 5, 2022. She was born in Bronx, NY May 9, 1924 to the late Lucy and Daniel M. Locker. Margaret enjoyed a care-free childhood surrounded by her loving, close-knit Irish-American family, which included her dear brother, James and many aunts, uncles and cousins. It was on one of the extended-family trips in 1939 to Tannersville, that Margaret fell in love with the Catskills and the magical mountain-top community, a community that she supported and that supported her for over 80 years.
As a young woman, Margaret's family moved to Yonkers, NY where she commuted on the trolley to Mount St. Vincent’s College in Riverdale, NY. Margaret received her degree in education and served as a New York City school teacher for over 35 years. Oh! The stories she would tell! Upon retirement, Margaret moved into the family home in Tannersville. Margaret briefly served as a substitute teacher at HTC. Margaret's true joy was found in immersing herself in many volunteer organizations including; Meals on Wheels, Greene County Women’s League, the Local Republican Club, Hunter Area Civic Association and the Haines Falls Library among others. Every visit to Aunt Margaret’s you were greeted with wonderful, locally sourced home-cooked meals, old-school hospitality and buying chances for whatever fundraising efforts she was supporting. "Aunt Margaret" was known and loved for the copious amounts of advice which she shared with all. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, David A Wright, her cousin, Joan Donovan and her nephew, James - with whom she had a very special bond. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved nieces and nephews: Daniel and Kathy Locker of Bernardsville, NJ, Marybeth Locker and her partner, Dennis Amendola of Bethel, CT, Harry and Maureen Locker of Williston, VT and Kathleen (Locker) Rusiecki and Peter of White Plains, NY. A mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church Haines Falls NY May 20th at noon with a celebration to follow. Burial / interment at St. Francis de Sales Mission Church in Elka Park, NY later in the spring on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00AM.
