Leon Paul Goodrich, a lifelong resident of Hunter, NY, passed away peacefully
on June 12, 2023, at the age of 92. Leon was born to the late Mark & Etta Becker Goodrich in Hunter on December 20, 1930. Leon was a retired insurance salesman and Army Veteran. He was a lifelong member of the Hunter Fire Company, PET project, HTC Alumni Association, Greene County Democratic Party, Greene County Board of Elections and American Legion Post 165. Leon loved traveling and was able to visit all 50 states. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, ice cream, watching Jimmy Sturr and making Mickey Mouse pancakes. Leon is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Ila, his daughter Deborah Allen (Walter) & son Gary (Catherine) and sister, Marie Hughes. He took great pride in and experienced so much joy with his grandchildren, Kim, Doria, Bobby, Jared and eight great-grandchildren. He had many nieces and nephews with whom he loved spending time. He was predeceased by five brothers and one sister. Calling hours will be held at Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Main St. Hunter, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, June 16, with the Firemen’s service at 7:00pm Friday. All firefighters are welcome to attend in uniform. The funeral will start at 11:00am on Saturday, June 17, at Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at the Maplewood Cemetery, Jewett. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Leon’s memory to the American Legion Post 165, PO Box 1065, Tannersville, NY 12485 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
