Active in the association, Leff served as a co-chair of the Metropolitan Regional Awareness Program and as a member of the Industry Liaison Committee. He was named honorary Vice President of the Membership Programs Committee.

In his nearly 20 years with PIANY, Leff has received numerous accolades from the association including the: General Agent Executive of the Year (2005); Chairman of the Year Award (2002); Committee Chair of the Year Award, for his tireless efforts in support of the MetroRAP (1999); and Professional Agent of the Year  Award, for his contributions and commitment to the industry, his fellow agents, PIANY and his community (1995). Leff also was awarded the first Louis A. Morelli Award in 1994 for his dedication to advancing the association.

Additionally, he received the PIANY Membership Sponsor of the Year Award in 1992 and 1993 for his outstanding commitment to the association and for voicing his strong beliefs of PIA membership to insurance professionals.

In 2009, Leff received a presidential citation from PIANY for his ongoing efforts to help guide the association and implement programs to benefit its members. His work on PAINY's MetroRAP helped to lay the foundation for its success and he received a second presidential citation in 2012 for his work on that event.

Leff has been a leader in PIA National's efforts to engage carriers in its Branding Campaign, "Local agents serving Main Street America."

In other industry affairs, Leff was on the board of directors for the New York Auto Agents Alliance and a member of the Professional Insurance Wholesalers Association of New York State Inc. The branding campaign avails PIA member agents to 250 print or broadcast ads, which sponsoring companies can support by allocating co-operative marketing funds for media buys or by placing company and agency logos on each ad.

In 2013, Leff received an award from the Fire Department of New York in appreciation of his generosity and support throughout the years. It was given by Captain Pete Archer and Engine Co. 279 and Ladder Co. 131; Red Hook, Brooklyn.

In 2012, he was honored by the Brooklyn Cyclones by throwing out the first ball during their game against the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Active in his community, Leff was a supporter of Greene County Womens' League Cancer Care and in 2002 he was presented with an award for his outstanding work on behalf of the organization. He also has volunteered for Special Olympics New York and the Breast Cancer Society. Leff is an honorary member of his local fire department. I'm extremely saddened by loss of Harvey. He has been a life long friend and has helped me throughout my insurance career. He opened my first direct account with Cosmopolitan Mutual when he was in marketing. He was always ready to assist in any way he could. Rest In peace my dear friend

Harvey is the best. He helped and loved everyone. His wife Carol his 2 boys and granddaughter were his life. I always looked forward to meeting him and hearing of his wonderful family. They cherish him almost as much as he cherished them.
The world is a better place because of Harvey.
We met and first worked together at Cosmopolitan Mutual where he worked hard developing producers and future friends. I was Supervisor of the Special Risk Underwriting Dept. Harvey and i wrote a lot of good accounts. We worked with a lot of good NYC brokers and developed long term friendships.
I will miss Harvey more than i can say. He became good friends of my wife Ginny (PELL) Wall and recruited her into the PIA. We both miss Harvey. Our condolences and best wishes to the family . John & Ginny Wall I would love to hear from old friends 718 974 2996

Very sad to hear this. I first met Harvey early on in my career. While he had much more experience and wisdom than I, he went out of his way to make me feel I was a peer.. His personality was larger than life, and we are all better for having known him. RIP Harvey.

Breaks my heart to read this news. Loved Harvey; he was always so good to me. He’s been on my mind lately and now I understand why. Definitely one of the best and one of a kind. Don’t make them like that anymore. He will be dearly missed. Condolences to all that loved him. RIP my long-time friend; until we meet again. xo
