My partner, Joan, and I met Charlie as clients almost 20 years ago and continued to know him casually since that time. Although we did not know Charlie well as close friends, Joan and I were very fond of him. I remember his sly and guarded humor, and what I took behind his gruffness to be a high degree of sensitivity and shyness. We do not live in the area, but would like to know what develops if there is a spring service. I don’t know what the coronavirus may have done to affect the plans for a spring ceremony.

Mr. Thorpe was a great kind man. I remember back in 1986, I was 20, and my friend Benny and I took a ride up to rent a ski house for the Winter. We were kids, wanting to rent a house for the winter, that eventually turned into the same house for 20 years. From the start he was a quiet and funny man, he always kept our deposits from year to year, but we always stopped in to see him. To me, he was the "Face" of Hunter. Everyone knew him, he knew everyone. If you needed help, you called Charlie, "That's it", he had the answer to everything on the mountain. I still remember my first time meeting him, That old house on 23A, with the office with all the interesting things he had collected over the years. I asked him for the bathroom, he directed me upstairs, I will admit it was kind of spooky as a kid, this old house, and this quiet older man who was not that easy to read. But once you got to know him, he was one of the kindest Souls I have ever meet. Proud Vet and a Great man. You will always be remembered by all the adults now that spent their summers with you, searching for that perfect rental for the season. Thank you for your service and your kindness, Rest in Peace Mr. Thorpe. Yes it's been a few years since you crossed over, but to me you are a legend to the Mountain, and i owe you the respect you had shown me. Be at peace my friend, God Bless you.
