Born June 29 1930 to the Late Richard And Willabelle Conner-Harty in Staten Island, N.Y. His family moved to N.Y. in 1945, to a small Dairy Farm in South Jewett NY. Richard Graduated from Hunter Tannersville Central School in 1948.
Richard is survived by his daughter Roberta Romey and her Husband David, as well as his other daughter Joan Hayes. He is also survived by his Grandsons Aaron Romey and Michael Hayes and wife Darlene, as well as his sister Willabelle MaGrath of Ormond Beach, FL. He was Predeceased by his Wife Wilma Fancher-Harty in January 2015, his parents, and his Twin Brother Bernard in 1955. Richard was very active in the volunteer fire service in Hunter, Greene County, and surrounding areas of NY State. He joined Hunter Fire Co #1 in 1952 and has been an active member ever since, Serving as chief from 1964 to 1968 and again in 1973 to 1977. He was also the Greene County Deputy Fire Coordinator for 25 years, a member of the following: Greene County Volunteer Firemen's Association (Life Member), Past President, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Greene County County Fire Chiefs Association Past President. His pride and glory was being a N.Y. State Fire Instructor from 1962 to 1993. 30 Years of training the fire fighters of Greene County. He Served on the NY State Fire Safety Advisory Board from 1982 to 1986, and The NY State Fire Council From 1974 to 1986He also Worked for the NY State Division of Fire Safety. He was a Village of Hunter Trustee from 1983 to 1995, Board of Directors of Maplewood Cemetery since 1955 and President since 1974. He was past Master of Mt Tabor Lodge F & AM of Hunter and Treasurer of Mountain Lodge F&AM of Windham. A member of Cyprus Shrine and past President and Treasurer of Greene County Shrine Club. He worked David Jacobs Electrical Contracting for 15 Years and was a self employed Carpenter, Additionally running a Home Maintenance service for vacation homes with his wife Wilma for over 40 Years. Friends and Relatives may visit on Friday, October 9th From 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at the Aston&Basagic Funeral Home, with services by the Fire Company service at 7pm, as well as a Masonic service at 7:30pm. The Funeral Services will be held the following day, Saturday the 10th at 11am at the Funeral Home, with an internment following at the Maple Wood Cemetery in South Jewett N.Y.. Memorial Contributions can be made out to the Hunter Fire Co. or the Cyprus Shrine Transportation Fund (9 Frontage Rd, Glenmont, NY 12077).
